Anastrozole

This Post is also available in: German

Anastrozole belongs to a group of drugs which are generally known as aromatase inhibitors. ARIMIDEX inhibits the action of an enzyme in the body called which aromatase. This reduces the production of certain female sex hormones, such as estrogen. ARIMIDEX belongs to the new non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors, which block the conversion of testosterone to estradiol, and androstenedione in estrone to estradiol in peripheral tissues by the enzyme aromatase, effectively without affecting the enzymes, in the biosynthesis of other adrenal steroids are included (as is the case for example with the drug aminoglutethimide). This drug is very specific and has effect not progestogens, androgens or estrogens. Medical studies have shown that ARIMIDEX can reduce the Östradiolkonzentration by more than 80% in postmenopausal women at a daily dose of 1 mg. One can conclude that male users 1/2 tablet should be sufficient, to prevent a conversion of the AAS. ARIMIDEX is one of currently effective aromatase. Anastrozole is rapidly absorbed and maximum plasma concentrations are reached with an empty stomach within 2 hours. The metabolites are primarily excreted via the urine. Anastrozole is broken down relatively slowly, and its elimination half-life is 40-50 hours. It is reduced to 85% of the liver and 10% via the kidneys.

Reason for application:

Anastrozole (aromatase inhibitor) is used in the sport to reduce the side effects due to the abuse of anabolic steroids.

Side effects:

Slight increase in total cholesterol easier hot flashes, hair loss, stomach and intestinal disorders (loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), weakness, somnolence (clouding of consciousness), headache, skin rash, liver enzyme changes (increased gamma-GT or – less frequently – increased alkaline phosphatase).

On the doping list since:

01.09.2001 the IOC prohibits in principle the Verwendnung of aromatase inhibitors in men.

Dosage / application:

It is taken usually a half to one tablet á 1 mg / day.
