Ephedrine or efedrine is a naturally occurring stimulant for the central nervous system that occurs in plants of the genus Ephedra, the iron hat and the European yew.

Ephedrine is a sympathomimetic, with a weaker but longer lasting effect than adrenaline.
Ephedrine has a blood pressure-enhancing, heart-stimulating, bronchogenic and appetizing effect, which is why it is used in medicines against hypotonia, chronic bronchitis, asthma attacks and swelling of the mucous membranes in rhinitis, as well as an ingredient of appetite suppressants. Probably the best known medicine in the ephedrine occurs is WikMedinait.

It is now mainly synthesized and the synthetic product marketed in the form of salt is ephedrine sulfate. Ephedrine sulfate is a white crystalline powder with a bitter taste. It is water- and alcohol-soluble. Ephedrine is similar in structure to amphetamines, although its CNS activities are less potent and also not as long as those of benzedrine.

Ephedrine is an adrenergic drug that acts by stimulating alpha and beta receptors, thereby causing the release of norepinephrine.

Its peripheral stimulatory activity is similar but less severe than that of epinephrine (adrenaline).

Ephedrine has bronchial muscle relaxing properties and was therefore used for symptomatic relief in the milder cases of asthmatic cramping. It was also used previously to reduce the risk of acute cramps in the treatment of chronic asthma.

However, ephedrine was replaced by newer drugs with fewer side effects, e.g. Clenbuterol hydrochloride.

It is also used to treat low blood pressure because it stimulates heart activity.

Constipation of ephidrine is used to it, but after temporary abstinence the sensitivity is restored.

Effects / Duration:

Increases blood flow, increases blood flow, increases breathing, increases muscular reflexes, increases blood glucose, increases calorie turnover, increases sweat production, dilates bronchial tubes and pupils, improves intestinal peristaltics, increases alertness, restrains hunger Sex drive, can lead to perceptual disturbances (dose-dependent).

The effect of ephedrine starts after about 30 – 60 minutes. After a further 20 – 30 minutes, the maximum efficiency is reached and lasts approx. 1 – 2 hours. The effect lasts for a further 2 – 3 hours after. Ephedrine is an average of 4-7 hours, with the main activity lasting about 3 hours.

Depending on the overall dose, post-harvest effects such as lightning flashes and other “optical effects” may occur up to 24 hours after consumption. Overall, the physical exertion is high, which is manifested by general fatigue, tiredness and irritability the next day.

Side effects / Overdose:

Excessive doses (overdose) can cause anxiety and anxiety, nausea, insomnia, tremor, pulse rash, sweating, breathing difficulties, confusion, hallucinations, delerium, shock, epileptic seizures and convulsions.

The most dangerous symptoms of overdose are abnormal high blood pressure and faster, irregular heartbeat. A dose of ephedrine only two to three times higher than that of the therapeutic maximum can cause a significant increase in blood pressure. Older persons are particularly sensitive to overdoses. Overdosing can lead to death.

Application / Dosage:

The typical adult dose is approximately 25-50 mg, 25 mg is the normal dose. Ephedrine is taken 3-4x per day in the form of tablets.
